WOMEN from across the borough are being urged to join the race to beat cancer at an unusual running event.
Cancer Research UK has chosen Himley Hall near Dudley to host a 5k run called the Race for Life Twilight.
The race, which is a new twist on the charity's Race for Life fundraising events, will take place after dark on Friday October 18.
Emily Thompson, Cancer Research UK’s West Midlands events manager, said: “We’re really excited about launching Race for Life Twilight in Dudley. We’re holding this exhilarating new event for the first time in the midlands and we’ve chosen Dudley as our first location because we believe our local supporters will really get behind it.
“Race for Life Twilight is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease. Light is a powerful symbol of hope so we want to see everyone with fairy lights and glow sticks and as many sequined, spangly outfits as possible."
According to the charity three people in the midlands are diagnosed with cancer every hour and cash from the event will contribute to the £10m Cancer Research UK spends in the region on some of Britain's leading scientific and clinical research.
Anyone wishing to take part in the Race For Twilight, which organisers hope will attract 1,000 women, should visit www.raceforlife.org or call 0845 600 6050 to enter.
