STOURBRIDGE walking fanatics are still rambling on - 60 years after the town club’s first members started lacing up their boots.

Stourbridge HF (Holiday Fellowship) Rambling Club is making plans to celebrate its diamond milestone by organising a 60-mile walk in the North Worcestershire Path - starting at Lickey Hills Country Park and finishing in the Malvern Hills.

The trek will be suitable for walkers of varying abilities though, as it will be broken up into bite-sized stages of five or ten miles.

A celebratory dinner will also be hosted in December as part of the club’s big birthday festivities.

Hiking fans Janet Weaver and Marion Teague founded the club in 1953 and 74 people attended its inaugural meeting.

The first organised walk took place in the Blakedown and Belbroughton area on a bright January morning in 1954.

Today, the club boasts a membership of more than 350 people and organises weekly walks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and at the weekend.
