VOLUNTEERS and staff at Halesowen Age Concern worked around the clock to reopen the centre which was smashed up by yobs last week.
Local businesses answered the call to help the stricken centre after the break in the early hours of last Monday morning.
The Green Lane centre was set to be closed for a week after yobs smashed doors, furniture and the CCTV system but was back open for business on Thursday.
Director of Halesowen Age Concern Hayley Green and Cradley South Councillor Ken Turner said: “Everyone at the centre worked like stink to get the place reopened before the end of the week to cause the least amount of problems for our elderly clients.
“We were impressed and delighted by the local businesses who rallied round and helped our clients and the Mayor of Dudley will coming to the centre on Wednesday to thank everyone involved.”
Central Alarms in Halesowen ensured the centre was secure by fitting new alarms and locks and Hickton Funeral Directors also helped to ensure the centre was up and running.
As well as smashing the centre, which caters for over 40 pensioners a day, the yobs stole food and cutlery and urinated over the remaining food. To help Halesowen Age Concern phone 0121 561 5341.
