OLDBURY Rep’s first production of its 75th Anniversary Season begins on Saturday - Ronald Harwood’s Quartet.
Set in a home for retired opera singers the fun centres around age old friends Reggie, Wilf and Cissy preparing to give a concert to raise fund for the home.
But when Jean Horton, a former ‘grande dame’ of the opera, Reggie’s ex-wife and fourth and most celebrated member of their former quartet, moves in all hell breaks loose.
As old grudges surface and threaten to undermine past glories it becomes obvious having four of the finest operatic singers of their generation under one roof is no guarantee of success.
The production opened at the Albery Theatre in the West End in 1999 after a short national tour that included the Malvern Festival Theatre.
In 2013 the film version was released starring Tom Courtney, Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly and Pauline Collins and was the directorial debut of Hollywood actor Dustin Hoffman.
The production runs at The Barlow Theatre, Langley, from Saturday until Saturday, July 21, excluding Sunday.
Performances start at 7.30pm.
