A DRINKER lobbed a glass that struck an Oldbury barmaid and cut her head as they argued over his change, a court heard.
Ashley Harris, aged 26, of Queens Road, Smethwick, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and was ordered to pay the barmad at the George pub £400 compensation.
He was also given a six month prison sentence suspended for a year and placed on supervision for a year when he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Judge Philip Parker QC said: "People who work in public houses need the protection of the courts from people who use violence against them."
He added Harris had caused a "nasty" injury with the glass but his previous good character had saved him from immediate custody.
