No parking charge reprieve for disabled patients
1:02pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
HEALTH chiefs are refusing to allow disabled patients free car parking at Russells Hall Hospital, despite claims the charges break discriminations laws.
Disabled former Cradley Town football manager Steve Daniels believes the hospital is in breach of the Equalty Act by charging blue badge holders the same as able-bodied motorists.
The 60-year-old claims it is discriminating against disabled people who take longer to get to hospital buildings and so have to pay more for parking.
But hospital trust chief executive Paula Clark said: “Blue badge holders are not treated less favourably than non-disabled drivers and are subject to the same car parking charges.”
