GENEROUS Halesowen shoppers donated more than £350 to a street collection organised by the town’s branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
Grateful branch chairman Jean Hadley said: “The very fact that people contribute in these hard times is testimony for the high regard of the selfless work of RNLI volunteers, often putting their own lives in danger to help others.
“The army of beach lifeguards around the shores of the UK continues to grow and this must be a comfort to all.
“Although we live so far from the sea, we all look forward to our summer holidays at the seaside and it’s nice to know that our children and grandchildren are being cared for by the RNLI Lifeguards who are now manning so many of our beaches.”
