New scheme to help householders slash energy bills
4:25pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
ECONOMY-conscious householders can sign up to a Sandwell Council scheme to save money on their energy bills.
It is claimed the Sandwell Energy Switch can save those who sign up hundreds of pounds each year on their gas and electricity bills.
Sandwell Council is leading the scheme which works by getting together a large number of people who want to change suppliers so energy companies can offer them cheaper deals.
The more people who sign up, by October 15, the lower the prices are likely to be and anyone can sign up on the council’s website regardless of whether they live in the borough.
The first Sandwell Energy Switch took place earlier this year with those who opted to switch saving an average of £120 a year, with some slashing bills by more than £300.
Sandwell’s deputy leader Councillor Mahboob Hussain said: “We think it’s important as a council we do everything we can to support our residents.
"This is an easy and effective way to make sure everyone gets the best deal and there is still plenty of time to sign up. People have nothing to lose so should find out what they stand to save.”
He added: “It was very successful last time so I encourage people to sign up as the more that do, the bigger the savings could be.”
Those who registered their interest in the first scheme, including those who actually switched suppliers, can sign up again. Visit www.sandwell.gov.uk/energyswitch
