A BULLYING Rowley Regis drunk pushed a young woman to the ground snapping her wrist as she tried to act as peacemaker to stop him at attacking her friend.

Bret Dance, aged 30, had been drinking heavily and taking cocaine before the attack on Lena Dell and in the same incident he also pushed Paige Palmer who was one of her friends.

Judge Martin Walsh told Dance it was clear he had instigated the violence outside the Shoulder of Mutton pub in Rowley Regis against the two women who had done nothing other than try to prevent the attack.

The judge said: "You were fueled by rage and it was clear you were intent on performing some sort of violence on the man you were in dispute with."

He said Miss Dell had been "brutally thrown to the ground" by Dance who was a man with a history of violence but for offences committed some time ago.

Dance of Eagle Close admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on Miss Dell and common assault on her friend and he was given a 12 month jail term suspended for two years.

He was further placed on supervision for two years by the judge, ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work in the community and to obey a four month curfew between the hours of 9pm and 6am.

Mr Patrick Sullivan prosecuting said Dance who was also ordered to pay Miss Dell £1,000 compensation for her injury felt his keys had been stolen while he was in the public house and that the friend of the two women was to blame.

In a victim impact statement Miss Dell later told police the incident had left her feeling frightened about going out in the area and she was scared of running into Dance.

Mr Richard Hull defending said Dance had already taken determined steps to resolve his alcohol and drug problems and stressed the incident came at the end of a period of "self destruction and self pitying" at the end of his relationship.

"He accepts this was abhorrent behaviour," said Mr Hull.
