BIG-hearted schoolchildren have donated their harvest festival produce to Halesowen’s Age Concern, as it recovers from two break-ins, which caused more than £7,0000 worth of damage.
Halesowen CE Primary School donated money to help people in Tanzania and Yemen through their last two harvest festivals, and decided to give closer to home this year.
Headteacher Angela Hannaway said: “It was a parent’s idea and the children enjoyed helping a local community project.”
Year three and four pupils wrote and presented the harvest festival with poems, prayers and songs and Mrs Hannaway said there had been an excellent response to the appeal for produce.
Halesowen Age Concern director Hayley Green and Cradley South councillor Ken Turner said: “The fact that the kids have done this and wanted to do it is phenomenal.”
The food will be used at the Green Lane centre which caters for more than 40 pensioners a day, some may be distributed to its clients and anything left will be donated to the Black Country Foodbank.
