REPORTS that a supermarket could be built on a prime site in Oldbury have been condemned as “pure speculation”.
A Sandwell Council spokesman denied the local authority had been approached by any prospectiive retailer or any other business interested in the 12-acres, known as The Junction, on Oldbury Ringway.
A spokeswoman from retail group Hammerson, who bought the land in 2012, said they were in the early stages of developing a mixed scheme of retail and residential for an outline planning application.
But she added the company was still investigating the kind of development that would be sought after in the location.
