NEXT year’s Victorian Fair in Halesowen is to be moved from June to July in the hope of better weather after this year’s downpour.

Although the rain at the fair on June 15 failed to dampen spirits, organisers hope the move to July will make sunshine more likely.

The popular event, which attracts thousands of people into the town centre and raised £10,000 for charities and good causes this year, will be held on Saturday July 19.

Tony Billingham, from the Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club responsible for the day, said: “The weather has been so inclement in June recently, we are hoping for a settled dry period by July and decided to hold it just as the schools are breaking up, before everyone goes on holiday.

“We thought we should set a date early because so many people have been ringing up asking when it’s going to be so they can make plans.”

The fair will feature charity stalls with traders dressed in Victorian costume, a host of entertainment and street performers.

Mr Billingham added: “It’s an important event in Halesowen because it brings a lot of footfall into the town.

“Many town centres are dying and we need attractions like this to keep Halesowen alive - especially as the council’s recent parking charge increase has not done anything to help.”

Anyone interested in booking a stall - which cost £25 - or in adding to the entertainment should contact Lyn Willetts on 0121 550 1272.
