A CHEF from a Halesowen restaurant has been voted one of the nation’s top curry cooks at a prestigious awards ceremony in London.
Kayum Ali, who runs the Spice Fusion Restaurant, Long Lane, was one of 44 chefs to receive official recognition for their contribution to an industry worth more than £4.2 billion a year at the 2013 Curry Chef of the Year Awards.
Mr Ali said: “I am delighted with my achievement. A successful restaurant is a team effort so this award is for everyone I work with.
“The award will inspire us to keep improving and I’d also like to thank all our customers for their help putting us on the map.”
Guests at the Lancaster Hotel event included communities secretary Eric Pickles, economist Lord Meghnad Desai and Lord Karan Bilimoria, founder of Cobra Beer and one of the award’s sponsors.
Syed Belal Ahmed, editor of Curry Life magazine, said: “Our award winners have all demonstrated the exemplary standards of service and innovation in the British Curry Industry.
