A BLACKHEATH-based housing association worker has scooped an industry award for making a difference to people’s lives in the town.
Ramesh Malhan, head of housing at the Black Country Housing Group, beat tough competition from across the region’s housing sector to win the Achiever of the Year Award at the Chartered Institute of Housing’s Midlands Awards.
The awards celebrate achievements in social housing and recognise individuals whose dedication makes a difference to their communities.
Mr Malhan won the title for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the development of A Better Blackheath Association over the last year - a new community group which aims to empower people to improve the quality of life for all residents and boost the town’s economy.
He has helped the association with a number of projects, including the Blackheath Festival and Talent Competition, which helped bring together people of all ages.
The housing group’s chief executive, Amanda Tomlinson, said: “We’re extremely proud of Ramesh’s award win which is very well deserved and recognises his longstanding hard work and commitment to the local community.
“His work to establish ABBA is a recent highlight and this community-led group is now in a great position to be a force for positive social and economic change in Blackheath.”
