Kind-hearted Halesowen quilters offer extra comfort for hospice kids
6:54pm Thursday 24th October 2013 in News
A GROUP of Halesowen quilters have spent six months creating a pair of teddy bear quilts to help life-limited youngsters feel snug in bed at the Acorns Children’s Hospice.
The Cornbow Quilters painstakingly stitched a single-bed quilt and a smaller one for a cot, which they presented to the hospice last week.
Members, who meet at The Haven, Zion Christian Centre, Little Cornbow, every Thursday evening, are no strangers to making charity quilts, with previous efforts raising £2,500 at a celebrity auction for the Caron Keating Foundation resulting in a personal letter of thanks from radio and TV presenter Gloria Hunniford.
Secretary Barbara Wild, who would like to invite new quilters along, said: “The group meetings are informal and friendly and all levels, from beginner to experienced, are welcome.
“Short demonstrations given by group members on various aspects of the craft are enjoyed during some of our Thursday meetings and more detailed workshops are undertaken on a Saturday.”
