  • "They want you to think they are listening to you, don't you 'believe it'. If you go beyond the headline and read the story, lines such as future re-structuring (really mean closures just not yet) No closures in the foreseeable future,(means this year.) We are listening to what people are telling us, (Means Elections are in May and Cllr Crumpton & Cllr Sparks want your vote in Wollescote & Quarry Bank) A word of caution this fight isn't finished yet, the council & the opposition are duplicitous and will just as quickly reverse things. The words still 'Under Review' speak volumes, Be on your guard. Last year before the 2012 elections Cllr Sparks pledged to keep New Bradley Hall Residential Home open, New Bradley is now 'Under Review' and looks likely to be transferred to the private sector."

Dudley leader scraps plans to close children's centres

Halesowen News: Cllr David Sparks today confirmed Dudley's children's centres are safe Cllr David Sparks today confirmed Dudley's children's centres are safe

DUDLEY Council is to scrap plans to close seven children's centres after an overwhelming public backlash.

Council leader, Cllr David Sparks, has this morning confirmed no centres will be shut, reversing a proposal intended to save £2.3m.

Cllr Sparks said the cash would instead be found through savings from within the authority and, although the council may still press ahead with re-structuring of the Sure Start centres, all 20 in Dudley Borough will stay open.

He said: "As leader I have decided there will be no closures in the foreseeable future, the consultation has shown how there is overwhelming local support for these centres.

"There has been a tsunami of popular support which is great to behold."
