SCORES of Halesowen children planted 1,000 English bluebells as part of ongoing developments to enhance the town's Huntingtree Park.

The bulbs, supplied by Dudley Council's Green Care, were planted by Lutley and Huntingtree primary school pupils, who braved a heavy downpour to complete the project.

Lutley teaching assistant Liz Cole, who specialises in Eco work, said the planting was to create a carpet of bluebells in the park's new woodland and followed on from previous daffodil planting and the creation of an avenue of trees by the youngsters.

The improvements are being spearheaded by the Friends of Huntingtree Park and Mrs Cole said: "It's very important work. We do a lot in school, and it's good to get out and help the community."
