A 170-year-old Oldbury bridge will re-open next Wednesday after major safety work was completed ahead of schedule.
Motorists have faced four months of disruption with Brades Hall Canal Bridge in Dudley Road East restricted to one-way and traffic out of Oldbury being diverted.
The bridge will be re-opened to traffic travelling in both directions by cabinet member for highways and environment Councillor Maria Crompton.
She said: "I know it has been difficult for drivers but we had no alternative. The work needed to be done and safety was our priority.
"I am just delighted that the work has been carried out ahead of schedule which has caused less disruption to drivers."
The work was carried out by Oldbury-based contractors Currall Lewis and Martin, with funding secured by Sandwell Council from the Local Transport Plan.
Councillor Crompton added: "The work has been first-class. I would like to thanks everyone involved in what has been a major project.
"We are sorry for the disruption these works have caused to local residents and road users, but the work was necessary for safety reasons," she said.
