A HUNDRED bags of cannabis and a stun gun were found stashed in a van after a police chase in Blackheath.

Officers spotted the man standing next to the vehicle in Avenue Road, but as they approached he ran off.

He was caught after a short chase through gardens by police who found a bag of cannabis and keys for the white Peugeot van on him.

The incident happened shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday (November 26) and the 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug and possessing a firearm.

He was bailed pending further investigation.

Detective Sergeant Inderjit Basra said: "This was a completely chance encounter where two officers spotted the man at the side of the road and pulled over to have a word."

He appealed for anyone with information or suspicions about drug use to ring 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

DS Basra added: "Keeping drugs off our streets is a priority for us. We know how disruptive and far reaching the effects of drug use and supply can be in a community. “
