A HALESOWEN woman has been arrested after allegedly driving the wrong way on the M5 this morning (Wednesday).

The 26-year-old is being questioned on suspicion of drink and dangerous driving after officers saw a black Vauxhall Astra at 3am driving the wrong way near junction one by West Bromwich.

The police said she had driven the wrong way for a couple of junctions and was stopped before going the wrong way on the slip road.

There were no reported crashes or injuries due to the incident. The woman took a test in custody which showed she was twice the legal limit.

Witnesses are urged to ring 101 concerning the incident.

The police launched its Christmas drink driving campaign this week and are urging people not to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.
