A KIND-hearted Halesowen boy is going the extra mile to raise funds for the Walking With the Wounded charity supporting injured soldiers.

Jack Morgan, aged 12, has collected £128 so far selling his old toys and the charity’s Christmas cards.

The Earls High School pupil offered cards for sale at Halesowen’s Asda earlier this month and will be back there on Sunday with a bucket collection.

He also collected all his old toys for a sale at Tenterfields Primary School on Monday and sold cards at Windsor High School’s Christmas fair.

Jack, of Cherry Orchard Avenue, was inspired after meeting a former soldier who had been badly burned in combat and seeing the documentary Harry’s Mountain Heroes about five injured troops tackling Mount Everest, supported by Prince Harry.

His stepdad, Mick Cowles, spent 23 years in the army and knows soldiers who are returning from Afghanistan with severe injuries and mum Rebecca Morgan has become the charity’s regional co-ordinator as a result of her son’s involvement.

Jack raised more than £350 for Walking With the Wounded with a trek up Snowdon and a bake sale at his former primary school Newfield Park last year.

He is now an official volunteer for the charity and his efforts were recognised at last month’s South Pole media event in Trafalgar Square, with Prince Harry and team UK, Team US and Team Commonwealth.

The young fundraiser chatted with the teams and met pop group Blake, which has released a single for the charity, and other VIPs.

His proud mum said: “He was invited because the charity was impressed with him putting in such an effort and he had a wonderful time.”

The charity helps injured servicemen and women with the aim of getting them back into long term employment after they have left the Armed Forces.
