More than 1,600 sign up to Dudley's big switch campaign

MORE than 1,600 households signed up to Dudley Council’s big switch campaign for a chance to save money on their energy bills.
Residents who signed up could save up to £177 on their bills following a recent auction with energy companies.
The scheme is part of a national initiative where councils across the country take part in energy auctions to see which companies can offer the best tariffs.
The three winners in the latest auction were: Scottish Power, Green Star Energy (formerly Pioneer Energy) and British Gas.
Residents who signed up will receive personal offer letters or emails soon to find out if they can make a saving compared to their current deal.
The 73 percent of people registered for the scheme could save on their energy bills if they choose to switch but there is no obligation.
Councillor David Sparks, Dudley Council leader, said: “We’re really pleased so many people took the time to register for Dudley’s big switch and that many people are now due to make a saving.
“With the cold weather now taking hold, I’m sure any news of savings on our energy bills will be very welcome.”
The deadline to accept the offer is Monday January 13 2014.
