ARTISTIC Cradley Heath student Sarah Jakeman has had her design selected by one of the region’s top theatres to decorate one of their walls.

The Ormiston Forge Academy sixth former’s artwork has been painted onto a wall of the dress circle staircase at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton.

It was chosen from hundreds sent in and the 17-year-old was treated to a VIP event to watch the pantomime Sleeping Beauty on press night.

The white wall has been transformed into a gallery of pantomime-themed murals over the last three years with the Sleeping Beauty murals being the latest addition alongside Snow White and Jack and the Beanstalk.

Sarah was presented with a framed version of her original design and a goody bag, as well as a 2014 season pass to see shows at the Grand Theatre.

Princess Beauty - Lucy Evans, Prince Daniel - Oliver Watton and Carabosse - Wendy Somerville were on hand prizes to present the prizes to Sarah and a fellow winner from a Wolverhampton school.

Ormiston’s principal Andrew Burns said: “It's a great example of engaging with young talent and showcasing it to a wider audience.

“I'm immensely proud of Sarah and congratulate her on winning this competition.”
