SHOPPERS can recycle unwanted Christmas cards at supermarkets in Amblecote and Merry Hill, rather than send them to landfill.

Sainsbury’s customers have until Tuesday January 14 to deposit their old cards and wrapping paper in a collection box, situated at the front of the stores.

Online customers in Stourbridge and Brierley Hill can also have their cards collected from their homes when they receive their shopping.

The cards will be recycled by Sainsbury’s and a donation will be made to the Forest Stewardship Council UK (FSC), based on the volume of cards collected in its stores.

Last year, almost £9,000 was donated to help the FSC with its work to promote responsible management of the world’s forests.

Amblecote store manager, Kevin Healy, said: “We had a really positive response from our customers last year and with their help, we’re hoping to make an even bigger contribution this time.

"It’s a great way to continue that goodwill feeling and ensure your cards are put to positive use.”
