A VEHICLE has crashed into the level crossing at Cradley Heath Railway Station.

The incident happened at 12.30pm and engineers from Network Rail have been working at the scene all afternoon.

Several trains were delayed due to the incident but resumed two hours afterwards despite the barriers needing to be replaced.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "At 12.30pm a vehicle struck the barriers, which will now have to be replaced.

"We are waiting for the police to close the road which will allow us to complete the work in replacing the barriers."

The spokesman added: "Services are now running slower than normal and we hope everything returns to normal as quickly as possible."

Sandwell MP Tom Watson witnessed the problems at the station and posted a picture on his Twitter page.

He said: "Alarms were going off when I arrived and the Network Rail workers were working on the barrier, it is just a big relief no-one was hurt in the accident."
