HOUSEHOLDERS in Halesowen and Sandwell are being given money saving tips as part of Big Energy Saving Week.

Residents can visit the Citizens Advice Bureau’s Big Energy Saving Week website to learn how to cut fuel bills and seek financial support.

They can also take advantage of the Sandwell Energy Switch which runs until February 18 and offers residents the opportunity to save money on their energy bills.

It works by getting together a large number of people who want to change suppliers so energy companies can offer them cheaper deals. The more people who sign up, the lower the prices are likely to be.

Anyone can use the council’s website to sign up to the scheme, regardless of where they live, and see how much they can save.

The first Sandwell Energy Switch took place last year and those who opted to switch saved an average of £120 a year.

Councillor Mahboob Hussain, Sandwell Council's deputy leader, said: “This is a difficult time for people, especially with the cold weather, but we are always looking at ways to save money for our residents.

“I would urge everyone to ring up or go online and see if it works out cheaper. Either way you're not making a commitment. The more people who sign up, the cheaper we can buy the energy.”

To complete the online form you’ll need a copy of your latest gas and electricity bill to hand.
