IT'S now or never for an Elvis impersonator from Halesowen who is swapping the bright lights of Las Vegas for a church fundraiser in Hasbury.

Mark Summers, who was named the UK's number one Elvis tribute act at last year's National Tribute Awards, will be singing a selection of The King's hits at St Margaret's Church, Hasbury on Friday.

Mark is a member of the Hagley Road church's congregation and all the money raised will go towards church funds.

He said: "I'm regularly flying all over the place performing so I am looking forward to playing Halesowen, it should be a great gig and we are hoping to raise over £1,000 for the church."

The Halesowen hound dog is used to casinos, exhibitions and concert halls but he is looking forward to hitting the high notes in church.

He said: "A church is a great setting as Elvis sang a lot of religious songs so I will be singing Peace in the Valley, Walk a Mile in My Shoes and Lord You Gave Me A Mountain to Climb and also will take requests."

The father of two has been a full time singing hip swiveler after being spotted by a cousin of Elvis eight years ago in Cyprus and is now regular on the moneyspinning US tour circuit.

He has recently worked with several musicians who played with Elvis during his glory years which saw him transform the musical landscape.

The 30-year-old impersonator has also struck up a friendship with Larry Geller, the music legend's hairdresser and friend, and as well as singing songs will be discussing this friendship on stage.

He said: "Working with the original musicians is amazing as is regularly dealing with Elvis' friends, The Memphis Mafia, it is none stop for me now.

"We were recently doing a West End show so I will be incorporating a bit of that in the act, I will start the evening as young Elvis and then after the interval change to become Las Vegas Elvis."

He added: "I cannot fit my whole band in the church but am bringing a Priscilla Presley tribute act with me."

Lesley Layton, from the church, said: "We are delighted that Mark is performing at our church as he tours all over the world, he is a member of our congregation so it should be a great night."

The concert starts at 7.30pm on Friday, tickets cost £7 and for more information phone Lesley Layton on 0121 550 3031.
