SCHOOLCHILDREN in Oldbury have been given high-visibility wrist bands to prevent them being run over on the way to and from school.
Taylor Wimpey donated the wrist bands to Rood End Primary School in a bid to encourage parents and children to walk more and reduce car journeys.
The construction giant, which is building new homes at nearby Cedar Drive, gave the school 100 fluorescent wrist bands to Key Stage One pupils.
Elaine Taylor, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, said: "Nowadays there is a real concern about the amount of time children spend outside being active and walking to school is an ideal way to help them get more exercise – but it’s important that they can be seen clearly by motorists.
“We hope our high-visibility slap bands will help keep the children safe during the darker winter months and encourage them to walk to school more regularly."
She added: "More children walking will also help minimise the number of cars on the road at the beginning and end of the school day."
