THE footage of the boozed up Colley Gate woman who drove the wrong way up the M5 has been released.

In the early hours of December 4 last year 26-year-old care assistant Katy Homer was stopped after officers dealing with a separate traffic matter spotted a Vauxhall Astra leaving the motorway at junction 1, up the entry sliproad.

Cameras on the motorway showed the car having driven into the path of vehicles, including heavy goods lorries, as she travelled north from Oldbury to West Bromwich on the southbound carriageway.

Homer, of Clent View, Halesowen, drove the car around the traffic island at junction 1, where police stopped her in her tracks.

Inspector Dave Southam, from Sandwell Police Investigation Team, said: "There is no doubt how serious this incident could have been.

"Ms Homer drove the wrong way along the M5 for around four miles and CCTV footage from the time shows other vehicles having to move out of the way.

"Thankfully, due to the time of day, the motorway was not as busy as it otherwise might have been and so no significant harm was caused to others.

"Ultimately driving whilst under the influence poses a risk to both the driver and others on the road − regardless of whether it is on a motorway or a quiet side street and this case will hopefully serve as a warning to others who make the dangerous mistake of getting behind the wheel after they’ve had a drink."

Ms Homer entered a guilty plea to both charges yesterday and will be sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 28 March. She was given an interim disqualification from driving.
