TEN weeks after being closed due to an accident the level crossing at Cradley Heath train station has finally fixed.
Network Rail carried out the repairs to the barrier this week and it was due to open to the public today (Thursday).
The reopened crossing will mean disabled and mothers with pushchairs will not have to bypass the Cradley Heath and alight at Stourbridge.
Stephanie Peacock, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate who has been campaigning for the crossing to be reopened, said: "It is welcome news that the Cradley Heath level crossing has finally been fixed. I want to thank the Halesowen News for their support with the community campaign that has seen the barriers mended.
"This is good news for the 13,500 people who use the station every week and the many local people who have expressed their anger at the slow approach to a problem that has affected hundreds of commuters, families, older travellers, local businesses and traffic."
She added: "I have been campaigning on this issue for two months and pressed Network Rail on the unacceptable delays. After launching a petition last week I am pleased Network Rail bosses in London have finally listened.
"People in Cradley Heath have waited too long but at least the matter is now resolved."
Network Rail blamed the delay on the wait for a bespoke part of the barriers having to be manufactured.
