A 35ft tree fell onto a Cradley Heath man as he was chopping it down in his back garden today.

A neighbour rushed to his aid and pulled him from underneath the tree before the air ambulance and paramedics arrived at his Greenfield Avenue home shortly before 11am.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the injured man complained of pain in his pelvis, back, lower abdomen and neck, but was lucky not to have suffered any broken bones.

He was given pain relief before being immobilised with a neck collar, spinal board and pelvic splint and taken by ambulance to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.”
