Wardens giving walking tour of historic Leasowes gardens

1:37pm Thursday 3rd April 2014

WALKERS have been invited on a historic tour of the Leasowes in honour of the 300th anniversary of the gardens.

Wardens will take visitors around The Leasowes, Halesowen and follow the historic Dodsley route on Wednesday, April 9.

The walk has been organised to honour its creator, William Shenstone, during the site’s 300th year anniversary.

The three hour tour of this Grade1 listed historic landscape and nature reserve is a rare chance to follow the original circular route which crosses part of the current golf course which is usually out of bounds.

The walk starts at 10am, meeting in the warden’s base and the tour will finish at 1pm.

Councillor Stuart Turner, cabinet member for health and well-being said: “This extended walk is a great chance to get out walking in some of the most attractive countryside in the borough. In addition, visitors will be able to learn about the national and international importance of The Leasowes.”

Booking is essential by calling 01384 814642. Participants should meet at the wardens’ base on the car park, The Leasowes, off Mucklow Hill, Halesowen.
