BLUES legend Paul Tait has organised a family fun day at Halesowen Town Football Club this weekend to raise cash for a charity close to his heart.

Ex-professionals, boxers and media stars will feature in the match on Sunday at the Grove between a Paul Tait Blues X1 and The Dad's Army - a team made up of fathers of the boys Paul coaches in Halesowen.

The money raised will be split between Autism Birmingham and The Richard Bettle Trust which raises money for research into metabolic illness in memory of former Earls High School pupil Richard who died aged 12 in 1993.

Paul Tait, scorer of the world's first golden goal, said: "I wanted to give something back and as I have a child with Aspergers Syndrome I want to raise cash and awareness for the charity.

"I am an ambassador for Autism Birmingham and hopefully we will raise enough cash to build a sensory centre to help children and their parents deal with their condition."

Paul, aged 42, has been coaching Halesowen youngsters at Earls High School through his Midlands Coaching Company every Saturday for eight years and is delighted the fathers of the boys have got a team to play his legends.

He said: "They are great blokes and even when they saw boxers Frankie Gavin and Wayne Elcock were in my side they were still prepared to face them on the pitch and I told them I'm sure it will be played in the right spirit."

A vast array of former Blues stars are turning out for the charity match, which is sponsored by Royal Fish Bar, including Mark Ward, Tony Capaldi, Michael Johnson and Dave Barnett.

British welterweight champion Frankie Gavin and former world champion Wayne Elcock will also be appearing as is TalkSport presenter Ian Danter.

Paul said: "I am over the moon so many stars are giving up their time for this great family fun day which is in aid of two great charities."

Kick off is 2pm on Sunday, May 4 at The Grove, Halesowen, admission is £3 for adults and £2 for children.
