Dementia awareness day being held in Cradley

A DEMENTIA awareness day is being held in Cradley in a bid to educate people about the debilitating disease.

Experts and doctors from across the Midlands will giving speeches and giving advice at the event at Providence Methodist Church Hall on Saturday, May 17.

A short film featuring Dudley borough carers from Dudley with loved ones who suffer from dementia entitled An Experience of Dementia will also be premiered.

The event is being organised by the Wychbury Patients Participation Group which is affiliated to the Wychbury Medical Group whose doctors will also be on hand to give advice.

Harry Bloomer, from the patients group, said: "Dementia is a growing problem in our society and all patients, carers and anyone else who wants to find out more about the condition is welcome to attend the event.

"We have got a really impressive line up of guests giving talks including Dudley Clinical Commissioning Group commissioning engagement officer Andrew Hindle, Sue Day from the Alzheimer's Society, Diane Heppe, from Crystal Dementia Gateway and Christine Rowley from Dudley Carers co-ordinator.

"There will also be an opportunity to talk with GPs from Wychbury Medical Group about issues relating to dementia."

As well as talks and presentations there will be stalls visitors can visit including Modi Pharmacy and Dudley Self Management.

Age UK will also have a stall and springboard co-ordinator Charlotte Dean will also be holding a question and answer session.

The Wychbury Patients Participation Group brings together patient volunteers, GPs and practice staff to discuss the services provided, improvements, accessibility and patient experiences.

The Dementia awareness day starts 9.45am and finishes at 12.45pm, on Saturday, May 17 at Providence Methodist Church Hall, Windmill Hill, and light refreshments will be available.
