THE charred remains of a human body has been found in a burnt out car in Cradley Heath.

Police officers were alerted to the gruesome find near Cradley Heath railway station at 9.20pm last night (Saturday) following a call from the fire service. 

The fire was so fierce the identity of the body is yet to be established and a forensic post mortem is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday).

Detective Inspector Warren Hines, from Force CID, is leading the investigation.

He said: "This was an intense fire which all but destroyed the Peugeot 306.

"Once fire-fighters extinguished the flames they discovered a body inside the car.

"At this time we are yet to establish the person's identity or the cause of their death which is being treated as unexplained."

He added: "A number of people have been spoken with and local enquiries has been conducted. CCTV footage is also being trawled."
