A DRIVER had a lucky escape as his van flipped over on a busy Quinton road today (Friday.

When Ambulance staff attended the scene at 7.59am the van was on its side and the driver was standing up in the cabin unable to get out.

A paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew attended the Wolverhampton Road South crash.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “A VW Caddy had collided with a lorry and landed on its side. Its driver, a man in his thirties, was standing up in it but couldn’t get out. The driver of another van initially helped keep the scene clear for the emergency services by blocking the road to other traffic.

“The driver of the Caddy was freed with the help of the fire service and was immobilised as a precaution.

"He was taken to Queen Ellizabeth Hospital Birmingham."
