Help boost for Halesowen's Britain in Bloom bid

A DOZEN community-minded Halesowen people answered a rallying cry to help spruce up Halesowen before the Britain in Bloom inspection.

They met with businessman and Rotarian Tony Billingham last Saturday, and agreed to take on a variety of jobs, including painting benches around the town.

Halesowen in Bloom secretary John Young said it had been a “good response” to Mr Billingham’s appeal in last week’s News.

The town’s Rotary club is also planning to help along with the 1st Halesowen Scouts.

It is the first time the town has entered the prestigious national competition and it is hoped that success will lead to a boost in visitor numbers to shops and leisure outlets.

Mr Young said plants for the town had cost £5,000, which had come from donations from businesses and the purchase of memorial hanging baskets.

But there is a £600 shortfall and Mr Young urged individuals and businesses which have not yet contributed to do so.

Donations can be paid directly into the Halesowen in Bloom HSBC account – sort code 40-23-03, account number 12183390.

Britain in Bloom judges will inspect the town on Monday July 21.
