DUDLEY Kingswinford Running Club is gearing up for its annual Gavin Tipper 5K charity race which takes place in Wall Heath next week.

The event, in aid of Dudley’s Action Heart charity, will be held at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club on Wednesday June 11 – starting at 7.30pm.

Around 133 members of DK Running Club’s 2014 beginners course will be joining hundreds of athletes taking part in the event – in memory of runner and DK Rugby Club member Gavin Tipper who scored the club’s only try and Twickenham.

Running club member David Fennell said: “After retiring Gavin gave something back to sport by coaching children at Black Country Triathletes, Tipton Harriers as well as Halesowen Cycling Club and is one of the many reasons this race continues to be so popular.

“Family and friends are very welcome to join us for a barbecue and there’ll be a bar open at the rugby club.

“This year's event is in partnership with Kewford Eagles F.C.”

Money raised will go to Action Heart’s cardiac rehabilitation centre based at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, which cares for heart patients across the borough.

Places are still available for the race. People can visit website www.dkrunningclub.co.uk for details on how to register. No entries will be taken on the night.
