Two half brothers brutally punched and kicked a teenager in an Oldbury pub leaving him with a fractured eye, a court heard.

Carl Round and Connor Higgins launched an “unprovoked attack” on their 17-year-old victim, who was with friends in the George pub, Sati Ruck prosecuting, said Round, aged 30, punched the teenager to the floor before being dragged away and Higgins, aged 19, then moved in and kicked him about the face as he lay on the floor.

The victim, who also suffered bruising and swelling, had to undergo surgery to repair his eye socket but made a full recovery from his injury, Mrs Ruck told Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Judge John Warner said: "This was an unprovoked attack with a degree of premeditation. It was a thoroughly unpleasant thing to do and he received a serious injury."

Round, of George Road, Oldbury, and Higgins, of Charles Avenue, Rowley Regis, both admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and they were each given a 10 month jail term suspended for two years.

They were also each ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid community work, placed on supervision for a year and told they must obey a 16-week curfew between 7pm and 7am.

Gurdeep Garcha, defending, said the two men had been at a family gathering to celebrate the life of a gravely ill aunt who sadly passed away just four days later and had been going through a difficult time.
