VISITORS to a historic Halesowen street will now know where they are after a faded street sign has been replaced.

The Peckingham Street sign in the town centre was both out of sight and unreadable.

However, after a series of complaints from resident Maureen Millsom a brand new sign has been erected by Dudley Council.

Labour General Election candidate Stephanie Peacock backed Mrs Millsom's demand for a new sign.

Mrs Millsom said: "I am delighted that Stephanie was able to sort this out and the new sign can now be seen, marking an important part of the town's heritage."

Stephanie Peacock, who lobbied Dudley Council for the new sign, said: "I was very happy to help when Maureen got in touch with me and I am really pleased that Dudley Council have replaced the sign, it is important to look after our town's heritage."

Peckingham Street is one of the oldest streets in Halesowen and now houses the post office, a Boots store and a Londis.

Miss Peacock added: "Our area is an historic place, it is important that we continue to preserve our local history and look after our town heritage for future generations.

"I am proud of this area and its history, that’s why I was pleased to help get this sorted. I will continue to stand up for Halesowen and Rowley Regis working with civic institutions to improve facilities and services in the town."
