A YOUNG Halesowen cricketer was bowled over when he was greeted with a welcoming reception at the town’s cricket club after completing a 160-mile sponsored walk.

Alex Hills, a 20-year-old Exeter University student, of Hunnington Crescent, who plays for Old Hill, completed the trek from the campus to his home town in nine days.

The geography student, who played Worcestershire county youth cricket, was accompanied by fellow student Roman Christoforou on the walk to raise £3,500 towards a visit to Ghana where they will teach sport and education at a summer school.

The pair were joined for the final few miles last Thursday by nine members of the Seth Somers Strollers, based at the cricket club.

They have raised more than £3,300 from the Big Walk and are on course to reach their target before flying out to Ghana next month.
