A SERIES of 75th anniversary celebrations are planned at a Halesowen church this month, kicking off with garden party and fun day.

Although Carters Lane Baptist Church in Lapal, dates back to 1787, the church is marking the date its current building was constructed in 1939.

The garden party and fun day with a barbecue, games and music will launch the celebrations on Saturday July 12 in the hall and church field from 5pm until 8pm.

The church will be open from Sunday July 20 until Tuesday July 22 for a flower festival and an Anniversary Service will also be held on Sunday July 20 at 10.30am.

This will be followed at 6pm with a Songs of Praise- style service featuring the top 12 hymns as voted on by the congregation.

There will be The Great Big Carters Lane Community Coffee Morning" on Tuesday July 22 from 10am until noon and a special service at 7.30pm marking the date when the new building was opened.

Church secretary Phil Turley said “We will retell the story, re-enact the original opening ceremony, bury a time capsule, and have a party.

“A welcome will be available for anyone who wishes to join us.”
