AN up-and-coming young violinist proved a crowd puller for Halesowen Orchestra’s summer concert on Saturday.

Roberto Ruisi, a 17-year-old BBC Young Musician of the Year strings finalist, received huge applause at the Cornbow Hall on Saturday for his rendition of the Brahms Violin Concerto in D.

Orchestra chairman Julie Billingham said: “His performance was absolutely phenomenal, everyone was astounded – it was virtually a standing ovation.”

The concert, which also featured the Brahms Academic Festival Overture and Dvorak’s The Noon Witch, attracted an audience of around 100.

The orchestra is now looking forward to a summer break but is looking for new recruits to join its string section in the autumn ready for its next concert on December 13, which will include Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and Elgar’s Serenade for Strings.

Mrs Billingham said players must have reached a good standard and be able to rehearse on Monday evenings at Leasowes High School.
