THE Stourbridge Comedy Festival has been labelled as 'one of the best ever' by organisers.

Headliners Jo Caulfield, Joel Dommett and Ian Cognito went down a storm at the various venues - The Mitre Inn, Moochers and Stourbridge Football Club - which hosted the third annual festival from July 9 to 12.

While the returning Cognito proved popular on the last night at The Mitre with his direct cockney persona winning as many fans as his original jokes.

Cognito is unlikely to get on the television with his material anytime soon, unlike Caulfield whose appearances include Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Mock the Week, and Dommett, who had a recurring role in E4s Skins and is also an actor.

As a bonus, Gary Delaney, one of Britain's foremost stand up comedians and joke writers, put in an appearance at The Mitre on Friday night for a free late night show.

Promoter Frankie Peoples said: "To say the festival was a success this year would be an understatement, with sold out shows, a variety of styles of comedians on show and just generally everyone had a fantastic time.

"The festival has gone from strength to strength since we started three years ago and complements well the monthly comedy nights at The Mitre and in Stourport, which continue to be as popular as ever."

The Comedy Hut is held at The Mitre Inn, Lower High Street, every second Tuesday of the month.
