OLYMPIC bronze medallist Kristian Thomas is hoping to win gold and enthral the nation again at the Commonwealth Games.

The Earls Gymnastic Club member won Team GB's first medal at the 2012 Olympics with his male artistic gymnastic team and is gunning for gold.

The 25-year-old, whose team event starts on Monday afternoon and will be competing in individual events throughout the week, said: "I cannot wait to get to the athletes village and for the competition to start.

He said: "We want to win the team gold and are more than capable of doing that, it won't be easy but team gold is the priority."

Halesowen Cycling Club's Jessica Varnish is hoping to ease her Olympic disqualification heartbreak with a victory in the Women's Track Sprint.

Qualifying starts at 11am on Saturday morning and the whole of her club will be cheering her on at their Manor Way base.

The 23-year-old cyclist, who was injured for most of last year, said: "Winning in Glasgow would be a massive achievement."
