A SOCIAL group is being set up by a Halesowen woman for people who find Sundays the loneliest day of the week.

Jean Green, whose ex-husband died last year, said Sunday was a difficult day for people living on their own.

The 64-year-old, who has recently overcome breast cancer, said: “I’ve been on my own for a number of years and Sunday is a difficult day.

“Monday to Saturday is alright, but on Sundays a lot of friends have partners and are busy.”

So she has decided to take action and set up Sunday Friends, which will initially meet at her home in Quantock Close.

Mrs Green hopes to organise activities such as walks and meals out depending on members’ interests.

She added: “Loneliness is caused by lots of reasons and is a big issue which people don’t like talking about.

“But I was ill for six months and it gave me time to think and I decided to do something about it.”

She has also recently raised more than £300 with a strawberry tea at her home for Breast Cancer Care.
