YOUNGSTERS preparing for high school in Halesowen are being given a taste of what's to come at a Summer school.

Over 100 youngsters have been enjoying Leasowes High School's summer lessons which will ease the transition from primary to secondary education.

As well as literacy and numeracy tuition the children have been enjoying action-packed activities including a total wipeout, zip lines, mad science experiments and Segways.

The youngsters had the chance to get to know their fellow classmates and meet some of the teachers while getting to grips with what secondary education has in store for them.

Leasowes director of alternative learning and community development Chris Bennett said: "The summer school has been a huge success this year.

"The whole team are pleased by the outstanding participation levels."

He added: "Our upcoming year seven pupils have had the opportunity to build friendships, engage in physical activity and build on their progress levels in literacy and numeracy.

"I have personally witnessed young people develop their social, team and listening skills which will be of great importance to them as they embark on their educational journey at Leasowes."

The Summer School also featured visits to the National Outdoor Water Sports Centre for kayaking, sailing, raft building and assault course activities, as well as Dudley Zoological Gardens.

The summer school, at Leasowes recently refurbished Greenhill Alternative Learning Campus, Long Lane, ended with a graduation ceremony and disco with a presentation by the pupils, who also received certificates and prizes for their efforts.
