THE Friends of Coombeswood Wedge is appealing for volunteers to help maintain the footpaths leading to the Halesowen beauty spot.

Members of the group are meeting at Coombeswood canal bridge on Saturday for a two hour session to clear back weeds encroaching on Monarchs Way footpath leading across the canal side and towards Gorsty Hill.

All tools will be provided.

Friends spokesperson Sue Yeadon said: " this is an on going maintenance programme which allows walkers to enjoy these paths. "Ideally if we had a small network of around 20 volunteers we could arrange our monthly tasks which normally include around half a dozen people, on a rota basis"

The group is also working with Leasowes wardens and the Coombeswood Canal Trust on Saturday, September 6 to begin replacing the wooden steps leading down from the Ancient Holloway to the canal.

Mrs Yeadon said: "Any help from people with experience in this kind of work would be very much appreciated.
