LABOUR'S Halesowen and Rowley Regis parliamentary candidate has backed plans for cap on rail fares.
Stephanie Peacock fears commuters could face fare rises of up to 5.6 per cent next year and welcomed Labour's announcement it would simplify the fare structures, give passengers a legal right to get the cheapest ticket and extend the cap on fares to all journeys.
Miss Peacock has surveyed train passengers at Cradley Heath and Rowley Regis train stations over the prospect of increased fares.
She said: "Hundreds of local people have signed up to my campaign on rail fares over the last year, so I welcome Ed Milliband’s announcement that Labour would cap annual fare rises on every route not just some."
She added: “Train fares have risen by 20 per cent since 2010, that’s over £300 on a journey from Cradley Heath to the other side of Birmingham.
"When local people are struggling with the cost of living this is a welcome move."
