A TEENAGE Labour Party supporter from Halesowen had a birthday gift delivered by the party’s deputy leader Harriet Harman.
For Earls High School pupil Alex Russell receiving the present of party membership from Labour’s leading lady was “the icing on the cake”.
The 14-year-old is following in the footsteps of his Belle Vale councillor mum Donella Russell, who had arranged the gift and the surprise delivery at the Annual Labour Conference in Manchester.
Alex said: “Having Harriet deliver my party membership was a fantastic experience. I asked for the membership for my birthday because I’m determined to get more involved with Labour and to work with them making Britain stronger and fairer for the future.
“Being here at the Labour Party Conference, as a Labour member, gives me the belief that I can go on to be a part of this for a long time to come. Hopefully, I will get the opportunity to return to conference as an MP myself”
Ms Harman added: “Too often these days we hear talk of young people being disengaged and disinterested with politics. Alex represents exactly what we need in politics - young people not just listening but getting themselves involved with the party and with campaigns.”
